What is a Cognitive or Diagnostic Assessment?
Cognitive ssessments involve the completion of various tests that measure how your mind works and what it is capable of.
Cognitive assessments are often used to help create fully personalised treatment plans, and inform whether people meet criteria for a diagnosis, such as for a specific learning or intellectual differences, Autism, ADHD, or in answering questions about general aptitude or mental ability.
Diagnostic assessments for Autism, ADHD or AuDHD also involve completing online questionnaires, interviews and providing various documents than help us understand you.
What Assessment Can I Have Done at Howearth Psychology?
Howearth Psychology conducts cognitive assessments for children, adolescents and adults to help people understand their own abilities, during our conduct of diagnostic assessments of neurodivergence/neurodiversity (ADHD, Autism, and learning differences), and to support other appropriately qualified clinicians (e.g., Psychiatrists, Pediatricians) in making these diagnoses. Please note that cognitive assessment is not necessary for a diagnosis of ADHD or Autism, however is very helpful for people to understand their minds and for planning effective treatment:

Do I or my child need a cognitive assessment?
Cognitive assessment is very helpful in identifying a person’s strengths and weaknesses, and can be helpful to almost everyone. However, cognitive assessment is generally quite costly, usually involving several hours of testing by a trained clinician, followed by evidence compilation and report-writing.
You will usually be advised by your child’s paediatrician, or your psychiatrist if you need cognitive assessment. However some people simply want to understand themselves better, or may be seeking access to organisations with specific entry requirements, and therefore self-referral for cognitive assessment is also accepted at Howearth Psychology.
